Release oil for the 2/4 servo in Ford's CD4E is applied to the back of the piston, with no inner sealing surface.  Normally, the tight fit of the pin in it's bore seals the oil, allowing the transmission to use the servo's release as an accumulator and to aid the spring in the release of the band.  The problem is that as the transaxle ages and the servo goes through many apply and release cycles, the pin wears the case.  This wear in the case creates a gap through which third clutch oil leaks, causing a lack of release pressure on the servo.  With this loss of pressure, the band drags, burning both the band and the direct clutch.

The CD4E kit contains tooling necessary to repair the servo pin bore.  We save your case by reaming out the case and installing a brass bushing that has proven to wear considerably better than the stock aluminum case.  The CD4E is a BLACK series kit, and is available as either a Master (pictured) or a Sub kit.
